Before you tackle reading comprehension,
build up your N1
vocabulary & grammar
Stop getting stuck on unfamiliar words and grammar patterns —
and start reading through passages under your own steam.
※ Take Vocabulary only, Grammar only, or both — whichever fits what you need.
Unfamiliar words and grammar
stop you mid-passage.
You start reading an N1 passage, and the moment an unfamiliar word or grammar pattern shows up, you stop. While you're working out what it means, you lose the thread of the whole passage.
You look up unfamiliar words each time — in a dictionary, or with ChatGPT. But then a similar expression shows up in the next passage, and you're stuck again.
On exam day, you won't have AI or a dictionary to lean on.
You want to practice reading comprehension, but vocabulary and grammar keep tripping you up before you even get there. Working on reading questions without a solid foundation underneath feels shaky.
If this sounds like where you are right now —
it's not a reading comprehension problem.
Your vocabulary & grammar foundation just isn't there yet.
Solve it as homework,
then check answers &
get explanations in class
Typical vocabulary and grammar study tends to treat memorization as the goal in itself. But memorizing alone leaves mistakes and uncertain expressions unresolved all the way to exam day.
In this course, you study and practice the assigned range as homework beforehand, and class time is centered on checking answers and explanations. We go through mistakes, confusing expressions, and the differences between similar vocabulary/grammar one by one — giving you an efficient 7-week review of N1 grammar and vocabulary.
- Study and practice the assigned range as homework beforehand
- Class time centers on checking answers and explaining mistakes
- Organize the differences between similar vocabulary/grammar and confusing expressions
- Get a full 7-week review of the N1 range
Homework is what makes
a short, complete review possible
If every item had to be explained from scratch in class, there wouldn't be time to cover the whole N1 range in 7 weeks. Because homework comes first, class time can focus entirely on explaining what you got wrong — making the most of limited time for an efficient review before the exam. The vocabulary and grammar you organize here will also help you judge confidently on reading comprehension questions.
Three Perspectives for N1 Vocabulary & Grammar
Vocabulary & grammar, from a weak point to a strength.
- ✕ Stopped by unfamiliar words
- ✕ Looking up grammar every time
- ✕ Don't know how to paraphrase
- ✕ No confidence tackling reading questions
- ◎ Fewer unfamiliar expressions
- ◎ Judge grammar meaning from context
- ◎ Recognize paraphrased expressions
- ◎ Approach reading questions with confidence
Vocabulary and grammar you've learned by theme,
put to use in your own sentences. That practice adds up —
and turns into confidence in reading.
Before you tackle reading comprehension,
why not strengthen your vocabulary & grammar first?

Frequently Asked Questions
As a guideline, we assume N2-level grammar and vocabulary already in place.
It's not a required class — it's an optional course for anyone who feels unsure about vocabulary and grammar before starting on reading questions.
Vocabulary runs Monday & Wednesday, Grammar runs Tuesday & Thursday.
Taking both means four sessions a week, Monday through Thursday.
Practicing actual reading comprehension questions happens in the N1 Reading course.
If you're already confident in vocabulary and grammar, you're welcome to join the N1 Reading course directly, without this one.
This isn't a course built around scoring well on the grammar/vocabulary section alone — the goal is building the base you need for reading questions.
Your grammar and vocabulary knowledge will deepen as a result, but that isn't the course's primary goal, so please keep that in mind.
Vocabulary meets Monday & Wednesday, Grammar meets Tuesday & Thursday, both 21:00–22:30 Japan Standard Time (90 min per session).
※ All sessions are online via Google Meet.
※ Students outside Japan are welcome — check the Lesson Schedule section above for your local time.
That leaves about 10 days of review time before the December 6, 2026 JLPT sitting.
